The Thief

Primary Text: John 10:7-10                                       June 20 & 21, 2026

This Week’s Teaching: 

1) Generational Strongholds

Exodus 20:4-6:  You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.  You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. 

DQ 1) What are generational strongholds?  Are there any such patterns

            in your family?

2)  Spirits of Fear

Romans 8:15:  For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship.  And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

2 Timothy 1:6-8:  For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.  For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.  So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner.  

DQ 2) Are you tormented by any type of fear?  How did it gain entrance

           in your life? 

3)  Lies & Death

John 8:44:  You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire.  He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.  When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

John 10:7-10:  Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.  All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.  I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.  He will come in and go out, and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. 

DQ 3) How has evil stolen from you and wrought destruction in your

           life?

           past?

4)  Deceiving Spirits

1 Timothy 4:1:  The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 

DQ 5) How do deceiving and lying spirits operate in human lives? 

DQ 6) How are deceiving and lying spirits operating in the church

           today?

5)  Egotistical Spirits

James 3:13-16:  Who is wise and understanding among you?  Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.  But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.  Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil.  For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. 

DQ 7) How do envy, jealousy, and selfish ambition serve as fertile

            ground for demonic deception and infiltration?
