Faithfulness

Primary Text:  Matthew 25:14-23      

This Week’s Teaching:

1)  Fidelity

1 Corinthians 13:4-7:  Love… keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Galatians 5:22-23:  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  

DQ 1) Define both fidelity and infidelity.

2)  The Faithful God

2 Thessalonians 3:2-3:  And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith.  But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

1 John 1:9:  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

3)  Unfaithfulness

Jeremiah 3:6-8:  During the reign of King Josiah, the Lord said to me, “Have you seen what faithless Israel has done?  She has gone up on every high hill and under every spreading tree and has committed adultery there….  Yet I saw that her unfaithful sister Judah had no fear; she also went out and committed adultery.” 

Romans 3:10-12:  “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.  All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.”  

DQ 4) How is all sin essentially infidelity or unfaithfulness?

4)  Faithful Servants 

Hebrews 3:2-6:  He [Jesus] was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house….  Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be said in the future.  But Christ is faithful as a son over God’s house.

Colossians 4:7-9:  Tychicus will tell you all the news about me.  He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord….  He is coming with Onesimus, our faithful and dear brother, who is one of you.  They will tell you everything that is happening here.  

DQ 5) What characteristics describe a person who is truly faithful?

5)  Rewards of Faithfulness

Matthew 25:14-21:  Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them.  To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability.  Then he went on his journey….  After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them….  “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!  You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.  Come and share your master’s happiness!’”
