1)  For Freedom’s Sake

Galatians 5:1:  It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.

2)  Abundant Life

John 10:7-11:  Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.  All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.  I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.  He will come in and go out, and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.  I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

John 10:10 (NASB):  “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

DQ 2) What is “abundant life”?  Why?

3)  Life in the Spirit

Romans 8:1-4:  Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.  For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering.  And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.

DQ 3) What is the “law of sin and death”?

DQ 4) What does it mean to live according to the Holy Spirit?

4)  Freedom in the Spirit

2 Corinthians 3:17-18:  Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.  And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

DQ 5) Define true freedom?

DQ 6) How does the culture wrongly define freedom?

5)  Servants of God

1 Peter 2:16-17:  Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God.  Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

DQ 7) How do we best live as servants of God?
