A Table of Plenty

October 24 & 25, 2026

Primary Text:  Psalm 23:5

Previous Teaching:  The Darkest Valley

1)  Through The Valley

Psalm 23:4 (NIV 1984):  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death (or through the darkest valley), I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

2)  The Comforter

2 Corinthians 1:3-4:  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

This Week’s Teaching:

1)  A Personal Spread

Psalm 23:5:  You prepare a table before me….

DQ 1) What does it mean for the Lord to prepare a table for us personally?

2)  A Table In The Desert

Psalm 78:14-20:  He guided them with the cloud by day and with light from the fire all night….  But they continued to sin against him, rebelling in the desert against the Most High.  They willfully put God to the test by demanding the food they craved.  They spoke against God, saying, “Can God spread a table in the desert?  When he struck the rock, water gushed out, and streams flowed abundantly.  But can he also give us food?  Can he supply meat for his people?”

Exodus 16:13-15:  That evening quail came and covered the camp, and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp.  When the dew was gone, thin flakes like frost on the ground appeared on the desert floor.  When the Israelites saw it, they said to each other, “What is it?”  For they did not know what it was.  Moses said to them, “It is the bread the Lord has given you to eat.”

DQ 2) How did God prepare a table for the Israelites during the exodus and thereafter?

3)  Our Bountiful Provider

Philippians 4:19:  And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 4:16:  Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

2 Peter 1:3:  His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

DQ 3) Why is it important to constantly recognize our real provider of all good things?

4)  Right In Front Of Them

Psalm 23:5:  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

Ephesians 2:1-3:  And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.  Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

DQ 4) Who are your real enemies?

5)  The Ultimate Feast

Matthew 22:1-2:  Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.”

Revelation 19:9:  Then the angel said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’”

DQ 5) What is the “wedding supper of the Lamb”?
